Overview

Concrete Pump Operator Safety and Operations Foundation Course is a one-week programme for new operators, line hands and site personnel who leave with a Concrete Pump Daily Operations Workbook. Participants inspect equipment, assess setup areas, stabilize outriggers, control boom and pipeline hazards, coordinate placement, prevent blockages, clean safely and respond to abnormal conditions. The course supports workplace training but grants no licence or authorization. Agile Leaders Training Center develops disciplined operator decisions and records.

Who Should Attend

  • New and developing concrete pump operators
  • Line hands and hose personnel supporting concrete placement
  • Site supervisors coordinating pumping activities
  • Plant and dispatch coordinators planning pump deployment
  • Safety personnel monitoring concrete-pumping controls

Participants should understand basic construction-site rules. Practical operation remains subject to employer authorization, manufacturer instructions, local requirements and supervised workplace assessment.

Departments and Industries

The course supports safe concrete delivery and placement across construction environments.

  • Building and civil construction
  • Concrete pumping and ready-mix operations
  • Infrastructure and industrial projects
  • Equipment rental and fleet operations
  • Construction safety and site supervision

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify pump components, controls and operating limits
  • Complete pre-use inspections and setup-area assessments
  • Stabilize the pump and control outrigger and boom hazards
  • Coordinate safe pumping, hose handling and placement
  • Respond to blockages, line movement and emergencies
  • Perform shutdown, cleaning, basic checks and daily records

Course Agenda

Day 1: Pump Systems and Pre-Use Control

  • Boom, Line and Trailer Pump Configuration Map
  • Hopper, Agitator, Pumping Unit and Control Identification
  • Manufacturer Information and Operating-Limit Review
  • Pre-Use Inspection and Defect-Reporting Checklist
  • Concrete Pump Daily Operations Workbook Structure

Day 2: Site Assessment, Setup and Stabilization

  • Access, Positioning and Exclusion-Zone Plan
  • Ground Bearing, Voids and Underground-Service Assessment
  • Outrigger Deployment, Cribbing and Level Verification
  • Overhead Power-Line and Boom-Clearance Controls
  • Setup Confirmation and Communication Record

Day 3: Pumping, Placement and Communication

  • Concrete Consistency and Pumpability Observation
  • Pipeline, Coupling, Clamp and Hose Inspection
  • Start-Up Sequence, Priming and Controlled Flow
  • Signal, Radio and Stop-Work Communication Method
  • Hose Handling, Placement and Exclusion Controls

Day 4: Blockages, Cleaning and Emergency Response

  • Blockage Indicators and Pressure-Energy Awareness
  • Safe Stop, Isolation and Blockage-Release Decision
  • Hose Whip, Pipeline Failure and Boom Movement Response
  • Shutdown, Depressurization and Washout Controls
  • Emergency, Incident and Equipment-Security Actions

Day 5: Operator Practice and Daily Assurance

  • Exercise: Complete a Pre-Use Inspection and Defect Report
  • Exercise: Assess Ground Conditions and Outrigger Setup
  • Exercise: Plan Pipeline, Hose and Placement Controls
  • Exercise: Respond to a Blockage and Emergency Scenario
  • Capstone Exercise: Complete a Concrete Pump Daily Operations Workbook

Practical Exercises

The course uses suggested activities that connect operating decisions with manufacturer information and site controls.

  • Suggested activity: inspect a pump configuration and identify critical controls
  • Suggested activity: mark access, setup, power-line and exclusion hazards
  • Suggested activity: plan communication for pumping and concrete placement
  • Suggested activity: document shutdown, cleaning and end-of-shift checks

FAQs

Does this course grant a concrete pump operator licence?

No. It provides foundation knowledge and structured practice but does not replace licensing, employer authorization, supervised assessment or local legal requirements.

What ground conditions must an operator check?

The operator checks bearing capacity, slope, soft or backfilled ground, excavations, voids, underground services and the space required for outriggers and cribbing.

How are concrete pipeline blockages handled?

Operators stop pumping, isolate energy, keep people clear and follow the manufacturer and workplace procedure. Pressurized lines are never opened casually.

Why is communication critical during pumping?

Clear agreed signals and stop-work authority help coordinate the operator, hose team, concrete supply and site supervision when visibility or conditions change.

What practical output is completed?

Participants complete a Concrete Pump Daily Operations Workbook covering inspection, setup, pumping, placement, abnormal conditions, cleaning and records.

Conclusion

Participants leave with a repeatable sequence for preparing, operating and securing concrete pumping equipment. The workbook makes hazards, checks, communications and decisions visible. It supports safer workplace learning while keeping manufacturer instructions, employer controls and authorized supervision in charge.
