GIS Skills Training: What You Can Actually Do Afterwards
A GIS course promises spatial skills, but what does that mean for your actual workload? Here is what the training builds, who benefits most, and how to put it to work on a real pro...
Infrastructure providers operate complex distribution grids and pipe networks that require precise geospatial tracking and systematic maintenance. GIS for utility asset management provides the spatial data framework necessary to locate, evaluate, and maintain physical infrastructure across electric, water, and gas networks. Organizations modernizing their operations transition from disconnected mapping tools to automated asset management, facilities management, and geographic information systems (AM/FM/GIS). This course develops technical proficiency in network data modeling, asset digitization, spatial analysis, and enterprise system connectivity. Participants acquire practical methods to maintain asset inventories, automate work order flows, and support operational decision-making. This course is delivered by Agile Leaders Training Center.
This programme serves technical specialists and operational leaders responsible for linear utility infrastructure and plant assets across commercial and public utility sectors.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Participants complete applied technical exercises using operational scenarios from water, electric, and gas utilities.
Participants should have a basic understanding of engineering, IT systems, or utility operations. Prior exposure to GIS is beneficial but not required, as the course starts from fundamentals and progresses to advanced applications.
Each day's session is structured to last around 4-5 hours, with breaks and interactive activities included. The ten-day format provides a structured progression covering foundational concepts, database design, enterprise integration, and analytical applications.
GIS integrates spatial data with external systems such as customer information systems and asset management databases through relational databases, enabling combined spatial and attribute analysis for operations, planning, and decision-making.
Maintaining reliable utility networks requires precise spatial data linked directly to corporate enterprise platforms. This training provides utility professionals with the operational frameworks and technical methods needed to model network infrastructure, digitize legacy records, integrate ERP systems, and deploy analytical web tools. Participants return to their organizations ready to configure robust geodatabases, optimize maintenance responses, and support data-driven utility asset management.
