Overview

Well Acidizing and Hydraulic Fracturing Operations Training Course is a one-week advanced programme for petroleum, stimulation, production, drilling and completion engineers, field supervisors and technical service professionals. Participants connect reservoir objectives and formation damage with candidate selection, matrix acidizing, acid fracturing and proppant hydraulic fracturing. The course develops a structured understanding of treatment design inputs, fluid and proppant selection, equipment, execution controls, pressure response, diagnostics, flowback and post-treatment evaluation. It does not prescribe a field treatment or replace company engineering assurance. Agile Leaders Training Center develops practical well-stimulation design and operations capability.

Who Should Attend

  • Petroleum, reservoir and production engineers
  • Stimulation, completion and drilling engineers
  • Well services and technical service professionals
  • Field supervisors, pumping leads and operations coordinators
  • HSE, quality and asset professionals supporting stimulation work

Participants should understand basic well construction, reservoir behaviour and production terminology. The course is educational and does not authorise treatment design, chemical handling or pressure operations without company procedures and competent supervision.

Departments and Industries

The course supports reservoir, production, drilling, completions, well intervention, stimulation, field operations, laboratory, HSE and technical assurance teams in operating companies and oilfield service organisations.

Learning Objectives

  • Relate reservoir objectives, formation damage and candidate selection to stimulation choice
  • Compare matrix acidizing, acid fracturing and proppant hydraulic fracturing
  • Interpret key rock, fluid, pressure and completion inputs for treatment design
  • Review acid systems, fracturing fluids, additives and proppants
  • Plan equipment, execution controls and quality checkpoints
  • Use pressure response and diagnostics to evaluate treatment behaviour
  • Structure post-treatment flowback and performance evaluation

Course Methodology

The programme uses technical briefings, selection matrices, simplified calculations, fluid-selection exercises, pressure plots, equipment schematics, operational scenarios and post-job reviews. Participants build a Stimulation Basis of Design containing assumptions, risks, decision gates and evaluation measures.

Day 1: Stimulation Basis and Candidate Selection

  • Production impairment, formation damage and reservoir objectives
  • Candidate data, completion constraints and treatment readiness
  • Decision boundaries among matrix acidizing, acid fracturing and proppant fracturing
  • Rock properties, in-situ stress, permeability and pressure context
  • Building the stimulation basis and uncertainty register

Day 2: Matrix Acidizing and Acid System Design

  • Acid-mineral reactions in carbonate and sandstone settings
  • Acid concentration, additives, compatibility and corrosion control
  • Injection rate, diversion, placement and reaction behaviour
  • Laboratory evidence, fluid testing and material compatibility
  • Matrix treatment sequence, monitoring and quality checkpoints

Day 3: Fracture Mechanics and Treatment Materials

  • Fracture initiation, propagation, geometry and containment
  • Differences between acid fractures and proppant-supported fractures
  • Fracturing-fluid functions, rheology, leakoff and cleanup
  • Proppant properties, transport, placement and conductivity
  • Linking design assumptions to expected pressure response

Day 4: Equipment, Execution and Operational Control

  • Surface equipment, high-pressure lines, blending and pumping systems
  • Pre-job checks, roles, communications and decision authority
  • Rate, pressure, concentration and material quality monitoring
  • Barrier management, chemical safety and environmental controls
  • Responding to pressure anomalies, screenout risk and execution changes

Day 5: Diagnostics, Flowback and Performance Evaluation

  • Treatment pressure plots and basic diagnostic interpretation
  • Comparing executed volumes, rates and materials with the design basis
  • Flowback planning, cleanup indicators and production handover
  • Post-treatment production response and uncertainty analysis
  • Completing a post-job review and improvement plan

Practical Outputs

  • Stimulation candidate-selection matrix
  • Acid system and compatibility checklist
  • Fracturing-fluid and proppant selection worksheet
  • Pre-job readiness and execution-control checklist
  • Pressure-response review template
  • Post-treatment evaluation plan

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the course teach one proprietary design package?

No. The course is platform-neutral and focuses on engineering logic, inputs, controls and interpretation.

Does it cover both acidizing and hydraulic fracturing?

Yes. It compares matrix acidizing, acid fracturing and proppant hydraulic fracturing within one decision framework.

Will participants design an actual field treatment?

Participants practise structured design reasoning using educational cases, not an authorised field programme.

Are safety and environmental controls included?

Yes. Chemical handling, pressure operations, barriers, communication and environmental controls are integrated into execution planning.

What is the main workplace output?

Participants complete a Stimulation Basis of Design and post-job evaluation framework.
